When referring to an awakener or wheel, it means extra copies after E3, using the number that is shown in the UI. For example if you have 6 copies of Ramona, you have E3+2, or a +2 Ramona.

A

A1/A2/A3/A4/A5

Stands for Alert 1, 2, 3, etc., the old D-Effect Zone difficulty system. Alert 1-3 corresponded to Normal difficulty, while Alert 4-5 corresponded to Hard difficulty.

AA

Absolute Axiom. When an awakener is at +12 (15 dupes in addition to the base copy), a bonus effect is added to their rouse.

AOE

“Area of effect.” Something that affects all enemies at once.

The covenant April Tribute.

B

Baby

Embryo (the Caro special card).

An in-game lottery where you can roll for awakeners and wheels (see “Gacha”).

Battery

To generate aliemus for awakeners; or an awakener whose job is to do so.

Battle Pass/BP

Curriculum (the seasonal reward track you can unlock with real money).

Benthos: Aequor (BAequor)

When some characters like GMurphy are in your team, they change Aequor into “Benthos: Aequor,” which works differently. Tentacle DMG is now based on your max HP; your DMG amplification is increased by 50%; exalts no longer give Tentacle Gathering; and the stances are stronger but have a 3-turn cooldown.

Black Pool

Using a rare item called Origin of Time to reset a standard character, refunding all their enlightens and level up materials and removing them from your account, thus ”returning them to the Black Pool.”

Blade

Blade of the Titan (Goliath’s SSR wheel).

Blue

Aequor.

Bluwil/Bluewil

An Aequor team using Tawil as the main damage dealer.

Buff

A bonus or positive status effect.

Burial

The covenant Burial Ground’s Sighs.

Burst/Burst damage

Damage which is dealt all in a single turn.

Burst turn

The turn you commit all your resources to deal as much damage as possible.

C

Carry/Solo carry

An awakener who “carries” their team over the finish line. Without them, the team doesn’t work.

Chains

Chains Unbound (Helot’s SSR wheel). Can also refer to the Chains of Resentment effect of certain enemies, which seals awakeners that hit them.

Character jail

Pulling on the standard Realm Study banner to get +12 awakeners and fish for limited awakeners.

Cheese

An unorthodox game strategy that relies on exploits or niche interactions rather than fighting “fair.” For example, a severely underleveled player might have no chance of beating a boss in a straight-up fight, but if they used Faint to cheat death for several turns, they could buy enough time for the Max HP % damage of Lotan’s OE to kill it.

Clem

Clementine.

Cocoon

An effect on some enemies that grants them increasing fortress (damage reduction) the more damage dealt to them in a turn. Can also refer to the Cocoon of the Maiden covenant set.

Combo

A “combination” of cards or abilities which is stronger than the sum of its parts.

Corpo

Corposant.

Costco

In Faded Legacy stages, a strategy based on buying lots of relics using the wheels Frenzy and Emerge.

Cov

Covenant (the 6-piece equipment set).

D

Daff

Daffodil.

Debuff

A negative status effect.

Divine realm

When some characters are in your team, they transform your realm mechanics into a different variant of that realm. These are nicknamed “divine realms,” after the original name of the first to be released, “Divine Realm: Aequor” (since officially renamed to Benthos: Aequor).

Divine Caro

See “Propagation: Caro.”

Divine Chaos

See “Primordia: Chaos.”

Divine Realm: Aequor (Divine Aequor)

Divine Ultra

See “Singularity: Ultra.”

Dolphin

Someone who spends money on the game, but not a lot.

Doorstain

Doresain, who is much maligned because he’s bad in endgame content.

Dore

Doresain.

DPS

“Damage per second.” Term from gaming slang. Can refer to the amount of damage an awakener does, or to an awakener whose role is main damage dealer.

Dual wield

Using two SSR wheels at once. You can do this if one of them is at +12.

DR

Death Resistance.

Dream/Dreams

The covenant Dream of Medicine. Used to have various different English names.

Driver

An awakener which isn’t the source of a team’s power and resources, but provides a way to use those resources to win; much like how a car’s engine is what makes it move, but the car’s driver is what makes it cross the finish line.

D-tide/Dtide

D-Effect Zone. Abbreviation of the old English translation.

E

E0/E1/E2/E3

Enlighten 0/1/2/3 (i.e. having 0/1/2/3 dupes of an awakener or wheel).

Ecog

Emergency Gnosis. Abbreviation of the old English translation.

Embers

Ancient Embers, an effect some high-HP enemies have. They take a certain amount of extra damage each turn, so their effective HP is lower, but they're harder to kill in one turn with burst damage.

Endgame

The content available to veteran players who have completed most of the game and fully leveled their characters. In Morimens, the endgame modes are D-Effect Zone, Astral Reign hard mode achievements, and the various seasonal leaderboards.

Engine/Value engine

An awakener which continuously generates resources, like the engine of a car, which the rest of the team is built around.

F

Feast

The covenant Feast from Afar.

Fin

Fin of Sorrow (Caecus’s SSR wheel).

Furnace

Crimson Furnace (the Caro mechanic).

G

Gacha

To gamble on a chance to get in-game characters or items. A “gacha game” is a game where this is a central mechanic. Comes from Japanese gachapon machines.

GDoll

Doll: Inferno. Stands for “Genesis Doll.”

GHelot/Gelot

Helot: Catena. Stands for “Genesis Helot.”

Glass cannon

Something that has high offense and low defense.

GLotan/Gluten/Gotan

Lotan: Cetarchon. Stands for “Genesis Lotan.”

GMurphy/Gurphy/Gurpy/GMuppet

Murphy: Fauxborn. Stands for “Genesis Murphy.”

GOgier

Ogier: Oathbound. Stands for “Genesis Ogier.”

Goli

Goliath.

GRamona

Ramona: Timeworn. Stands for “Genesis Ramona.”

H

Ham

Hameln.

HSR

Hectic Skybound Rail. (Not to be confused with a certain other gacha game.)

Hypercarry team

A team with three supports that support a single carry.

I

Image

Dimensional Image Relic. Refers to a series of rare relics in Astral Reign stages that each power up a specific awakener.

Incalc

Incalculable Factor (Winkle’s SSR wheel).

Investment

The amount of resources that are spent on an awakener or team. In this guide, enlightens, levels, limited or ascended wheels, upgraded covenants, and strong teammates are all considered “investment.”

JP Aequor

See “Benthos: Aequor.” Refers to the fact that this version of Aequor is ported from the Japanese release of Morimens.

JP Caro

See “Propagation: Caro.”

JP Chaos

See “Primordia: Chaos.”

JP Ultra

See “Singularity: Ultra.”

K

Kath

Kathigu-Ra.

Keyflare bot

A support awakener whose main job is to hold the covenant Life Drain and provide keyflare for the team.

L

Last hit

To land the killing blow on an enemy.

Lighthouse

Amidst the Downpour (Faros’s SSR wheel).

Limited

A limited banner is a banner that runs for a limited time before going away. A limited character or wheel is one that you get from these banners.

M

Main stat

The primary stat given by a wheel or covenant piece, which increases in magnitude as you increase its level, up to +12.

Mana

Arithmetica. Term from Magic: the Gathering/Hearthstone.

Meds

The covenant Dream of Medicine.

Meta/Metagame

The collection of strategies that are most effective and commonly used by players; or something pertaining to those strategies. For example, a “meta character” is a character that is often seen in the metagame.

Mob

A normal enemy (as opposed to elites and bosses).

Mono

Refers to a team comprised of characters from only one realm. For example, a “Mono Aequor” team is a team with four Aequor awakeners.

Mono Chaos

A team comprised of only Chaos awakeners (not Primordia: Chaos), and hence, able to abuse Chaos Realm Mastery to generate tons of keyflare and aliemus.

Monowil

A Mono Chaos team using Tawil as the main damage dealer.

Monthly dupes

Refers to Prototype Horizon and Timeloop Copy, two items in the Store that grant duplicates of any owned character or wheel, including limited ones.

N

Naut

Nautila.

Nerf

To make something weaker after a game update.

O

OE

Over-Exaltation. When an awakener is at +4 (7 dupes in addition to the base copy) or more, they can use a powered-up exalt which costs twice as much aliemus as normal.

OP

Overpowered; much more powerful than other options.

P

P-Dive/Pdive

Phantasmal Dive.

Pen

Remembrance Quill (material used for locking substats in covenant transcription).

Pizza

Covenant.

Plug

Refined Gnosis Primer (material used for leveling up a character beyond 70).

Portrait

See “Image.”

Premium support

A powerful, game-changing supportive character such as Thais. Usually used in the context of D-Effect Zone where you can’t repeat characters, so you have to decide where you're putting your premium supports.

Preorder

A time-limited paid bundle that sometimes appears when new characters are released. Rewards unlock over time, but you get bonus cosmetics for buying the bundle early.

Primordia: Chaos (PChaos)

When some characters like GLotan are in your team, they change Chaos into “Primordia: Chaos,” which works differently. The normal Chaos mechanics no longer apply; your DMG amplification is increased by 50%; you only get keyflare at the start of battle and when playing the first card of each awakener each turn; rouses have Prepare 1 and trigger your equipped posse; and your posse button lets you choose random unlocked posses, as well as other effects, to unleash.

Proc

Trigger an effect.

Propagation: Caro (PCaro)

When some characters like Saya are in your team, they change Caro into “Propagation: Caro,” which works differently. Your DMG amplification is increased by 50%; Crimson Furnace is stronger and inflicts corrosion but has a 3-turn cooldown; the damage, shield, and healing of your exalts are buffed; and embryos further buff your exalt instead of granting crit buffs or shields and STR from devouring.

Proto

Either Protoparadise (item that lets you select any standard awakener to receive) or Prototype Horizon (item that gives you a dupe of an owned awakener).

Prototype

Prototype Horizon (item that gives you a dupe of an owned awakener).

Pull

To gamble on a chance to get in-game characters or items (see “Gacha”). Alternatively, a resource that lets you do so (Pure Cores, Luminous Cores, Ethereal Cores).

Pure realm

A team that only contains Chaos and one other realm, so it receives the full benefit and Realm Mastery scaling for that realm. (Primordia: Chaos doesn’t count.) For example, a Pure Aequor team only has Chaos and Aequor awakeners. It will get bonus tentacle scaling from Realm Mastery and start each fight with 2 tentacles rather than 1.

Purple

Ultra (the realm).

Pyramid

Can refer to either Gnosis Primer (material used for leveling up a character beyond 60) or Origin of Time (a rare item given out during events and used to reset characters).

R

R rarity

The lowest rarity of wheels, referring to the brown ones you get from random pulls.

Racism

Tongue-in-cheek term for when a character is stronger against specific enemies. For example, Corposant is infamously “racist” against Aequor enemies in Astral Reign because her soulforge talent makes her deal more damage to them.

Rat wheel

Path Forsaken (Jenkin’s SSR wheel).

Red

Caro (the realm).

Retal

Counter. Abbreviation of the old English translation.

RM

Realm Mastery.

RNG

“Random Number Generator.” A phrase used to describe any part of the game that is random. Some would say the Random Number Generator is just dumb software. It’s actually an evil deity that takes pleasure in ruining our hopes and dreams.

Rotan

Lotan: Cetarchon, after an old English mistranslation. Also stands for “Red Lotan.”

S

Salv

Salvador.

Scale/Scaling

The ability to grow in power over the course of a battle or stage. Alternatively, the ability to grow in power based on a specific resource, such as STR.

SF

Soulforge Aptitude (talent which boosts stats in Astral Reign stages).

Singularity: Ultra (SUltra)

When some characters like Arachne are in your team, they change Ultra into “Singularity: Ultra,” which works differently. Your DMG amplification is increased by 50%; your command cards are buffed and get further buffs when put into Ultra Space; Annihilation has a 3-turn cooldown and puts the leftmost card from Ultra Space into your hand instead of giving you an Insight; and the Ultra Round extends your current turn instead of starting a new turn.

Skey

Keyflare. Abbreviation of the old English translation.

Skey bot

See “Keyflare bot.”

Spam/Spamming

Using the same ability or card over and over again.

SR rarity

The SR characters are the 4 starting awakeners from the Prologue (Ramona, Lotan, Ogier, and Doll). The SR wheels are the silver ones you get roughly every 5 pulls.

SSR rarity

All awakeners in the game, other than the 4 starting awakeners from the Prologue (Ramona, Lotan, Ogier, and Doll), are considered SSR rarity. The SSR wheels are the full-color ones that are advertised on the banner.

Stall/Stalling

A strategy that focuses on surviving rather than dealing damage.

Stamp

Thousand Faces Seal (material used for upgrading and transcribing covenants).

Standard

The Realm Study and Wheels of Rotation banners are the “standard” banners, which are always available. A standard character or wheel is one that you get by pulling on these banners. (Not including the limited characters and wheels that have a very rare chance of dropping instead.)

Stat stick/_ stick

Refers to awakeners or wheels that are used because of their high basic attributes rather than their actual abilities. For example: “Even if you don’t care about the effect of Path Forsaken, you can still use it as a Crit Rate stick.”

Sub DPS

A secondary damage dealer in addition to the main DPS.

Substat

One of the randomized stats that covenants have in addition to the main stat, unlocked at Keeper Level 35, which you can spend Thousand Faces Seals to reroll.

Support

An awakener which is not the main focus of the team, but enables the rest of the team to work better.

Sustain

The ability of a team to stay alive over many turns through healing and shielding.

Sustained damage

Damage which is dealt consistently over multiple turns.

T

Tank/Tanking

A “tanky” awakener can take incoming damage or negative status effects without consequence.

Tawheel

Wheel Unseen (Tawil’s SSR wheel).

Timeloop

Timeloop Copy (item that gives you a dupe of an owned wheel).

Titan/Titan’s Blade

Blade of the Titan (Goliath’s SSR wheel).

Toolbox

Something that gives access to many different abilities, letting you get exactly the tool you need for the situation.

U

Unit

Awakener. Comes from gaming slang.

Utility

Useful abilities that awakeners have apart from dealing damage.

V

Vort/Vortex

Vortice.

W

W1/W2/W3/W4/W5

Stands for Wave 1, 2, 3, etc. in D-Effect Zone.

Whale

Someone who spends a lot of money on the game.

Wheel jail

Pulling on the standard Wheels of Rotation banner to get a wheel to +12.

Y

Yellow

Chaos (the realm).
